At Ozark Literacy Council, we have a variety of opportunities including tutoring, teaching, participating on special interest teams and in conversations clubs, and bi-lingual student mentoring. You must be 18 years of age or older for our volunteer opportunities.

As of January 2024, we are launching our new system for onboarding our volunteers. If you are interested in any volunteer opportunities at OLC, please fill out the interest form below.

About Volunteer Opportunities

Pam Estes with Raya Satibaeva

Tutoring at OLC

Partner with a student on their journey to improve English skills and fully immerse themselves in Northwest Arkansas life. Opportunities include:

  • In-Building ESL and ABE Tutoring

  • In-Home ESL Tutoring

  • Tutoring at a partner location (local library).

There are 1 on 1 and group tutoring options.

Teaching at OLC

Provide classroom instruction for our advanced students. Most volunteer teachers have had prior experience tutoring, teaching, or interacting with diverse groups of people.

Conversation Clubs

To enhance the experience of shared learning and community belonging, OLC has created conversation clubs.  Students and volunteers gather for casual conversation around common interests and shared hobbies. All OLC community members - students, tutors, volunteers, student mentors, board members, NWA neighbors interested in joining our community - can join one or more clubs depending on interests and time availability.

Student Mentor Program

Advanced students can join the Student Mentor Program and become a language and conversation mentor for other students. This is a program which brings together students of varying fluency levels for bi-lingual conversations, cross cultural support and homework help.
